 |
The story of DTD Ribarstvo begins in 1954 with the incorporation
of the company “Šaran” in Petrovaradin (meaning “Carp” in
English), specialized in farming and sales of carp and
associated freshwater species. By the late 1960s, several other
similar companies were fused into “Šaran”, before “Šaran” itself
was merged with the other five largest aquaculture
producers
in former Yugoslavia. Together, they continued their
business activities under the name “Yugoslav Freshwater
Aquaculture Union” with a head office in Belgrade. A subsequent
ownership transformation of this organisation in 1978 resulted
in the re-emergence of “Šaran” as an independent company, which
then fused with the Fisheries Institute (specialising in
training of technologists in fish farming), in order to produce
DTD Ribarstvo, as the company is known today.

In 1998, DTD Ribarstvo modified its ownership structure in
compliance with the new Enterprise Law and continued as a
company in joint state and private ownership. In 2006, the
company was fully privatised and came into ownership of the
current shareholders.

Since then, DTD Ribarstvo has become the
leading fish distributor in Serbia, through increasing its
product range, expanding its
sales network and entering new market segments. The company is
focused on obtaining top-quality products through introduction
of modern methods and technologies, and tight control of its raw
materials and final products. Currently, the company is
organised in 4 profit units. |

 |
Aquaculture,
the traditional activity of the company since its founding days,
takes place on 1.100ha of lakes in 5 locations in the North of
Serbia (Jazovo, Srpski Miletić, Žabalj, Susek and Futog). |

Wholesale and
retail
distribution
of products from own production as well as imports is expanding
over a sales network currently comprising of 5 wholesale
distribution
centers (Bački Jarak, Belgrade, Čačak, Jagodina, Aleksinac)
and 35 specialized shops. |

 |
Fish feed production
started experimentally in 2007, culminating in the construction
of a new fish feed plant in Bački Jarak in 2007, primarily
intended to enable tight control of the cost and quality of the
main raw material in DTD Ribarstvo’s own fish farming operation. |

Agriculture,
primarily tied to production of raw materials for fish feed, is
carried out on 4.000 ha acquired by DTD Ribarstvo in 2008 (Lovćenac)
and 2009 (Banatsko Aranđelovo). |

 |
DTD Ribarstvo is currently building a new fish processing
plant in Bački Jarak, which will start production by the end of
